DIG Ali Akbar Khan Appointed Acting Chief of CID

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ali Akbar Khan has been assigned as the Acting Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police. The appointment was announced through an official notification issued by the Police Headquarters on June 1, 2026.
A member of the 15th Bangladesh Civil Service (Police) cadre, Ali Akbar Khan joined Bangladesh Police in 1995. Born on September 21, 1967, in Chandpur district, he has built a distinguished career marked by professionalism, integrity, and administrative excellence.
Throughout his service, he has held key positions in Range Police, Police Headquarters, and the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs. His contributions in these assignments have earned recognition from both colleagues and senior officials.
To enhance his professional expertise, Khan has participated in numerous national and international training programs, seminars, and workshops. Among the notable events was a workshop in Italy focusing on promoting regular and legal migration, preventing human trafficking, discouraging irregular migration, and facilitating the repatriation of irregular migrants.
He also attended a regional workshop in the Maldives on data collection related to trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants (TIP/SOM) in South Asia. Participation in such international programs has further strengthened his investigative and law enforcement capabilities.
Officials and observers expect that under his leadership, the CID will continue to enhance its role in criminal investigations, technology-based detective work, and the handling of complex and high-profile cases across the country.
