The government has announced that a new national pay scale for public sector employees will be implemented in phases starting from July 1, 2026, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said while presenting the national budget.

Speaking in Parliament on Thursday (June 11), the finance minister said the revision comes in response to rising inflation and increased living costs, aiming to improve the financial well-being of government employees after nearly 11 years without a major revision.

Under the new structure, the salary ratio between the lowest and highest grades has been set at 1:8, reduced from the previous ratio of 1:9.076. Significant salary increases have been introduced across all grades.

Key proposed salary revisions include:

  • Grade 1: 78,000 → 160,000 BDT
  • Grade 2: 66,000 → 132,000 BDT
  • Grade 3: 56,500 → 113,000 BDT
  • Grade 4: 50,000 → 100,000 BDT
  • Grade 5: 43,000 → 86,000 BDT
  • Grade 6: 35,500 → 71,000 BDT
  • Grade 7: 29,000 → 58,000 BDT
  • Grade 8: 23,000 → 47,200 BDT
  • Grade 9: 22,000 → 45,100 BDT
  • Grade 10: 16,000 → 32,000 BDT
  • Grade 11: 12,500 → 25,000 BDT
  • Grade 12: 11,300 → 24,300 BDT
  • Grade 13: 11,000 → 24,000 BDT
  • Grade 14: 10,200 → 23,500 BDT
  • Grade 15: 9,700 → 22,800 BDT
  • Grade 16: 9,300 → 21,900 BDT
  • Grade 17: 9,000 → 21,400 BDT
  • Grade 18: 8,800 → 21,000 BDT
  • Grade 19: 8,500 → 20,500 BDT
  • Grade 20: 8,250 → 20,000 BDT

The government stated that the total income for the lowest grade, including allowances, will reach approximately 41,908 BDT.

The finance minister added that the revision aims to address long-standing stagnation in public sector wages and improve living standards amid rising costs.
