Eskayef Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and Novo Nordisk have announced the launch of local production of modern insulin cartridges (Penfill) in Bangladesh for the first time, following a technology transfer from Denmark.
The announcement was made on Tuesday at an অনুষ্ঠানে held in the capital.
Previously, advanced insulin products such as NovoMix and NovoRapid were imported from Denmark. With this উদ্যোগ, these insulin cartridges will now be produced locally using the same technology, increasing availability and reducing costs for diabetes patients.
Officials said that for the first time, premixed and fast-acting modern insulin cartridges will be manufactured in Bangladesh following international standards. Each production batch will be quality-checked in Denmark to ensure compliance with Novo Nordisk’s global benchmarks.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain Bakul said the initiative marks significant progress in strengthening Bangladesh’s biopharmaceutical manufacturing capacity and will ensure an uninterrupted supply of life-saving medicines.
Director General of the Directorate General of Drug Administration Major General Md. Shamim Haider noted that the partnership will reinforce quality, safety, and efficacy in the production of critical medicines like insulin.
Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Christian Brix Moller highlighted the strong partnership between Denmark and Bangladesh in healthcare and said the initiative would enhance access to quality diabetes care.
Managing Director of Novo Nordisk Bangladesh, Dr. Riad Mamun Pradhani, announced that prices of NovoMix and NovoRapid insulin will be reduced by 18 percent due to local production, without compromising quality.
