36 Bangladeshis Arrested in Malaysia for Alleged Links to Extremism

A total of 36 Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested in Malaysia on allegations of involvement in extremist activities. The arrests took place during three separate raids conducted between April 24 and June 27 in the Selangor and Johor provinces. Malaysian Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Friday, June 27.
He stated that the individuals were reportedly promoting extremist ideologies associated with the Islamic State (IS). According to the minister, the group had been spreading radical beliefs within their own community, raising funds for terrorist operations, and establishing cells aimed at overthrowing the government in their home country. “Malaysia will not be a safe haven for foreign extremist movements. We will not take lightly any threat to national security,
” Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said. He also stressed that Malaysia will take firm and effective action against any attempts to turn the country into a base or transit hub for terrorist activities.
