Walton Plaza and Moon Alert Launch Joint Initiative to Find Missing People

Walton Plaza, a major electronics retail and service chain in Bangladesh, has joined hands with emergency information platform Moon Alert to help locate missing people.

The two organisations have launched a new initiative titled “Missing Persons Broadcast.” Under the programme, photographs and verified information about missing people will be regularly displayed on television screens at more than 700 Walton Plaza outlets across the country.

A memorandum of understanding was signed at Walton’s corporate office in the capital on Monday, September 28. The agreement was signed on behalf of the respective organisations by Walton Plaza Managing Director Mohammad Raihan and Sadat Rahman, president of Zero Missing Foundation, the organisation behind Moon Alert.

Walton Chief Marketing Officer Zoheb Ahmed, Pop-Five Chief Executive Officer Masud Parvez and officials from the organisations concerned were also present.

Initiative Driven by Social Responsibility
Walton Plaza Managing Director Mohammad Raihan said the company’s activities go beyond selling products and providing services, as it also participates in social and humanitarian initiatives.

He said the partnership with Moon Alert aims to help disseminate information about missing people quickly and widely.

Under the initiative, people will be able to visit their nearest Walton Plaza to view information about recently reported missing persons. They will also be able to report missing-person cases and follow up on previous reports through Moon Alert’s helpline, 13219, and its web portal.

Walton Chief Marketing Officer Zoheb Ahmed said Walton Plaza outlets attract large numbers of people every day. He said using the company’s nationwide network and in-store television screens to circulate information about missing people is part of its social responsibility.

He expressed hope that the initiative would help locate missing people and support their families.

Wider Reach for Verified Information
Moon Alert founder Sadat Rahman said the wider verified information reaches, the greater the possibility of finding missing people.

He said Walton Plaza’s nationwide network would help share information in areas that Moon Alert might find difficult to reach on its own. He also expressed appreciation for Walton Plaza’s participation in the humanitarian initiative.
