Uber Technologies, one of the world’s largest technology and ride-sharing companies, is set to acquire Boston-based catering technology startup ezCater for approximately $2.3 billion in an all-cash deal.
At an exchange rate of Tk 123.07 per US dollar, the acquisition is worth roughly Tk 28,226 crore, making it one of the notable technology deals involving a company led by a Bangladeshi-American executive.
ezCater is a Boston-based technology platform that helps offices, corporate events and other organisations order food and catering services. Bangladeshi-American technology executive Nihad Rahman joined the company in 2022 and later became its chief executive officer.
The acquisition will give Uber an opportunity to expand Uber Eats into the corporate catering market. By bringing ezCater’s business into its broader food-delivery operations, Uber could strengthen its presence in the growing market for workplace and corporate food services.
The deal has drawn particular attention in Bangladesh because of Rahman’s leadership role at ezCater. The $2.3 billion transaction represents not only a major business acquisition but also a notable example of a Bangladeshi-American professional leading a technology company involved in a major deal with a global tech giant.
The acquisition also highlights the growing presence and leadership of Bangladeshi-origin professionals in the US technology and startup ecosystem.
