Israel will not attack Iran, says Donald Trump

International Desk – Former U.S. President Donald Trump has said that Iran will not carry out a direct military attack on Israel. He believes that Iran is not currently in a strategic position where it can launch direct aggression against Israel, one of the major military powers in the Middle East.
On June 24, 2025, in a television interview, Donald Trump said, “Iran knows that a direct war against Israel would be a suicidal decision. They would never want that.” He further added, “If my administration were in power, such instability in the Middle East would not have occurred.”
Background of the Current Tension
This statement came at a time when tensions between Iran and Israel in the Middle East have reached a peak. In countries like Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and the Gaza Strip, both nations’ influence continues to clash indirectly. Especially due to Iran’s relationship with Hezbollah and Hamas, and alleged attacks on Israel through them, Israel is also responding with countermeasures.
Trump’s Middle East Policy
During his presidency, Donald Trump took a hardline stance against Iran. In 2018, he withdrew the United States from the Iran Nuclear Deal (JCPOA) and imposed new, stricter sanctions on Tehran. According to the Trump administration, these steps weakened Iran and reduced its ability to engage in direct conflict.
Trump further claimed that the Biden administration’s weak foreign policy and “soft approach” have emboldened Iran again, which could lead to new tensions in the future.
Expert Opinions
According to international analysts, instead of engaging in a direct war with Israel, Iran continues to exert pressure through a strategy of proxy war by using allied groups. Donald Trump's recent remarks further reinforce that assumption.
However, many believe that Trump’s statements are primarily driven by electoral motives—positioning himself once again as the sole protector of peace in the Middle East.
