Zelenskyy and Trump Hold "Meaningful" Call After Massive Russian Attack on Kyiv

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump in what Zelenskyy’s chief of staff described as an “important and meaningful” discussion.
The call came in the wake of Russia’s largest drone and missile assault on Kyiv since the start of the war, involving approximately 550 drones and missiles targeting the capital over seven hours. The attack resulted in multiple casualties, widespread destruction, and significant strain on Ukraine’s air defenses.
During the call, Zelenskyy urged urgent U.S. support, particularly for replenishing vital air defense systems such as Patriot missiles. Trump, who had earlier expressed disappointment following a separate call with Russian President Vladimir Putin—which he said yielded no progress toward ending hostilities—communicated a willingness to talk but left questions unanswered regarding the pace of aid delivery.
The conversation signals a renewed focus on international cooperation amid intensifying Russian aggression. Zelenskyy emphasized the critical need for sustained Western support to protect civilians and prevent further devastation in Ukrainian cities.
