According to the Hamas-run Civil Defence agency, four trucks overturned onto a crowd in central Gaza, resulting in the deaths of twenty people and injuring more than thirty others.
On Tuesday evening, crowds gathered around the vehicles on a road southeast of Deir al-Balah. According to local journalists speaking to the BBC, people climbed onto the trucks, which caused the drivers to lose control.

Hamas officials allege the tragedy was exacerbated by the insistence of Israeli authorities that aid vehicles follow unsafe, bomb‑damaged routes, where pedestrians congregated en masse. Such routing, they assert, leads to chaotic crowds storming the vehicles, increasing the risk of accidents.

The broader context underscores a deepening humanitarian and security crisis. Humanitarian aid deliveries have plummeted relative to demand, with Gaza receiving only a small fraction of the daily minimum requirement. Amid widespread hunger and collapsing civil order, aid delivery has become perilous not only due to mass desperation but also because of reported looting by armed groups and threats faced by drivers from both armed factions and security forces.

This incident is among a spate of similar deadly events in recent months, including multiple shootings and stampedes at aid distribution points that collectively have claimed the lives of hundreds of Palestinians. The situation is further compounded by famine, disease, and the breakdown of governance and protection structures across the Gaza Strip.

The crash involved four aid trucks overturning onto aid-seekers in central Gaza, worsening already dire conditions. As local medical facilities continue to grapple with overwhelmed emergency care and admissions, officials warn of mounting casualties from malnutrition and violence at aid sites.
