In the early hours of Wednesday, Israeli military forces launched a major raid in the Old City of Nablus, located in the northern occupied West Bank. The operation began around 3:00 a.m. and involved dozens of soldiers and armored vehicles entering residential neighborhoods, conducting house-to-house searches, and reportedly converting some homes into military outposts—prompting local residents and officials to describe the assault as largely symbolic and intimidating.
Clashes broke out between Israeli troops and Palestinian youths, who responded with stone-throwing at the military presence. In return, Israeli forces deployed tear gas and, in some instances, fired live ammunition. The Palestinian Red Crescent and medical sources confirmed dozens of injuries: some reports suggest 25 treated for tear gas inhalation, while others indicate up to 80 Palestinians were wounded, including at least one person struck by live fire.
Witnesses recounted that an elderly couple was forcibly evicted from their home amid the assault, and authorities in Nablus declared that the raid would span until mid-afternoon. The Israeli military acknowledged the operation to AFP but did not elaborate on its specific objectives.
The latest incursion adds to a series of similar raids over recent years, particularly during the ongoing Gaza conflict, where Nablus has frequently been targeted—most notably in early June 2025 when at least two Palestinians were killed during an IDF operation there. Reports also cite that since the war began in October 2023, nearly 972 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers across the West Bank, while Israeli casualties number at least 36.
