A massive far-right demonstration under the banner “Unite the Kingdom,” led by activist Tommy Robinson, took place in central London on Saturday, drawing between 110,000 and 150,000 attendees, making it one of the largest nationalist gatherings in recent UK history.

The march, officially promoted as a “festival of free speech,” was organized by Robinson, known for his anti-immigration and anti-Islam positions. Many demonstrators carried Union Jack and St. George’s flags; some wore MAGA hats, and others waved American and Israeli flags.

A counter-protest organized by anti-racism group Stand Up to Racism attracted around 5,000 participants and followed a separate route.

Tensions escalated when the sheer size of the crowd overwhelmed police expectations and capacity. Authorities reported that officers faced “unacceptable violence”, with some demonstrators attempting to breach cordons. Objects, including bottles, flares, and other projectiles, were hurled at police, leading to physical confrontations. As a result, 26 officers were injured, four seriously.

Injuries included broken teeth, a possible broken nose, a concussion, a head injury, and a spinal injury. At least 25 arrests were made for offences such as violent disorder, assault, and criminal damage, with more expected as investigations continue.

Speakers at the rally included European far-right political figures and tech entrepreneur Elon Musk. Musk addressed the crowd via video link, openly criticizing the UK government’s immigration policies and warning of a decline in British identity.

French far-right politician Éric Zemmour also spoke, promoting the so-called “great replacement” conspiracy theory.

Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist of the Metropolitan Police acknowledged that while many came to protest lawfully, a substantial number came with violent intent. He pledged to identify and take action against those responsible for the disorder.
