Complaint of Poor After-Sales Service Against Star Tech and Whirlpool After Refrigerator Malfunction Before Eid

A complaint has been raised against leading technology retailer Star Tech Ltd. and home appliance brand Whirlpool Bangladesh after a newly purchased refrigerator reportedly developed a fault just before Eid, causing significant inconvenience to the customer and his family.
The complainant, US-based Bangladeshi content creator Robin Rafan, said he purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator online from Star Tech as an Eid gift for his sister in Bangladesh. However, shortly before Eid, the family discovered that a key cooling component of the refrigerator was not functioning properly.
According to the complaint, Whirlpool’s customer care service was contacted after Eid. Two technicians from the company reportedly visited the residence on separate occasions and inspected the appliance. They allegedly identified a fault in the refrigerator’s motor and recommended repair work.
However, Robin Rafan said he requested a replacement instead of a repair, arguing that a brand-new product should not require servicing immediately after purchase. He also claimed that the malfunction caused inconvenience to the family during the Eid period and resulted in the spoilage of stored food due to the hot weather.
The customer further alleged that after requesting a replacement, neither Star Tech nor Whirlpool Bangladesh provided any effective follow-up communication or resolution regarding the issue.
Expressing his frustration, Robin Rafan said, “It is disappointing to experience this level of neglect as a customer. I trusted these well-known brands when making the purchase, but the service did not meet expectations.”
Star Tech Ltd. has previously faced customer complaints on social media and online platforms regarding after-sales service, warranty-related issues, and product support. However, the company’s official response to many of those allegations has not always been publicly available.
Consumer rights advocates note that if a newly purchased product contains manufacturing defects or mechanical faults, customers may be entitled to repair, replacement, or, in certain cases, a refund under applicable warranty policies and consumer protection regulations.
They also emphasize that prompt resolution of customer complaints and effective after-sales service are essential for maintaining consumer confidence, particularly for expatriate Bangladeshis who frequently purchase products online for their families back home.
At the time of reporting, no official statement regarding the allegations had been obtained from either Star Tech Ltd. or Whirlpool Bangladesh.
