Government Targets 200,000 New Technology Jobs Annually

The government has set a target of creating 200,000 new jobs every year in the technology sector while developing a skilled workforce capable of meeting the challenges of automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury announced the initiative while presenting the proposed national budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year in Parliament on Thursday.
In his budget speech, the minister said the government also aims to generate an additional 800,000 indirect employment opportunities through large-scale training programs in freelancing, digital services, and creative industries at the college and university levels.
To support this goal, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has undertaken special projects focused on skills development in freelancing, mobile servicing, caregiving, and foreign language training, enabling young people to access both local and international employment opportunities.
The minister emphasized that building a skilled and future-ready workforce is essential to maintaining competitiveness in a rapidly evolving, technology-driven global economy.
He added that the government is preparing a time-bound action plan to develop human resources equipped with the skills required for emerging industries and future labor market demands.
According to the minister, the broader objective is to accelerate economic growth by expanding technology-driven employment opportunities and integrating Bangladesh’s young population into productive sectors of the economy.
