A customer has complained of severe cooling problems after purchasing a new air conditioner (AC) from multinational electronics brand Haier, saying the unit failed to provide adequate cooling despite repeated attempts to resolve the issue.

Sultana Liza said she purchased a ‘Haier Clean Cool 1.6 Ton’ AC from a showroom called ‘Green Air’ on June 5. According to her, the unit began showing cooling problems soon after installation.

She said her room is only 132 square feet, but the AC fails to cool the entire room even when operated at 23-24 degrees Celsius. According to her complaint, cool air reaches only a limited area directly in front of the unit, while other parts of the room remain inadequately cooled.

She said the problem becomes particularly noticeable at night. According to her account, after running the AC in cool mode at 24 degrees Celsius for four to five hours, the room suddenly becomes hot and the AC starts blowing air similar to a regular fan rather than cool air.

Liza said she contacted Haier Bangladesh’s customer care and technical teams several times. She alleged that technicians checked and refilled the refrigerant but failed to identify or permanently resolve the underlying problem.

She also said she had previously posted about the issue on social media but removed the post after receiving assurances from the company that the matter would be resolved. However, she claimed that no effective solution was provided despite the passage of time.

Liza has urged Haier Bangladesh to address the matter promptly, warning that she would otherwise file a complaint with the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection.

The report also raises claims regarding the cooling capacity of some seized Haier AC units reportedly tested at a BSTI laboratory. It alleges that the tested units had lower BTU capacity than their declared specifications.

However, the specific laboratory results, models involved and Haier Bangladesh’s response to these claims have not been independently verified. The claims should therefore be treated as allegations pending further verification.
