The Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) has temporarily suspended the full medical registrations of 10 doctors following serious allegations of medical negligence, wrongful treatment, and financial malpractice.

The suspension is a result of investigations into incidents where four patients died due to negligence in treatment, and another individual was allegedly subjected to incorrect medical treatment, resulting in financial harm.

According to the findings, the doctors involved were proven to have caused substantial damage to patients’ health and financial well-being.

In an official notice signed by the BMDC’s Acting Registrar, Dr. Mohammad Liakat Hossain, the Council has stated that the doctors' names have been temporarily removed from the BMDC's registry for a specified period. The suspension follows evidence presented during the 54th BMDC Council meeting, which confirmed the allegations against the doctors involved.

The doctors whose registrations have been suspended include:

Dr. Ishtiaq Azad, Dr. Mahbub Morshed, and Dr. SM Mukhtadir from JS Diagnostic and Medical Check-up Center in Malibagh, Dhaka.

Duration of Suspension

Dr. Ishtiaq Azad and Dr. SM Mukhtadir: Suspended for 2 years.

Dr. Touhidur Rahman and Dr. Soheli Islam: Suspended for 1 year.

The remaining doctors will be suspended for 6 months.

Legal and Regulatory Basis

The decision to suspend these doctors has been made under the provisions of the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council Act, 2010, specifically Section 23(1), and the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council Regulations, 2022, Rule 36(4)(k). According to the BMDC, the disciplinary action follows the confirmation of the allegations raised against the doctors during the 54th Council meeting.

The BMDC has emphasized that these actions are in accordance with the law and are intended to maintain the integrity of the medical profession and protect public trust in medical practices across the country. The Council also stated that such steps are crucial to ensure that healthcare professionals adhere to the highest standards of care and ethical practices.
