Just an hour after relieving Mujibul Haque Chunnu from the post of General Secretary, the Jatiya Party issued a press release informing the media of the decision to relieve three leaders simultaneously. After appointing Shamim Haider Patwary as the party’s General Secretary, Jatiya Party (Japa) Chairman GM Quader relieved three senior leaders — Anisul Islam Mahmud, ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader, and Md. Mujibul Haque (Chunnu) — from all party positions and responsibilities. In this situation, the party chairman, under the powers of the constitution, relieved Senior Co-Chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud, Co-Chairman ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader, and General Secretary Md. Mujibul Haque. The press release stated that the decision has already been implemented. Just moments before being relieved, two senior Jatiya Party leaders — Anisul Islam Mahmud and Ruhul Amin Howlader — issued a statement opposing the appointment of Shamim Haider Patwary as General Secretary, excluding the then-current General Secretary Md.

Mujibul Haque (Chunnu). In their statement, they alleged that this appointment was extremely undemocratic, unconstitutional, and a direct violation of the party constitution. The senior leaders of the Jatiya Party stated that this was an expression of one-man authoritarianism, which has put the party’s existence at risk. On Monday afternoon, the central office of the Jatiya Party announced in a press release the appointment of Presidium Member Shamim Haider Patwary as the new General Secretary. The release said that the party chairman, under the powers vested in him by the constitution, had relieved General Secretary Md. Mujibul Haque (Chunnu) and appointed Shamim Haider Patwary to the vacant position. Immediately afterward, Anisul Islam Mahmud and Ruhul Amin Howlader issued a joint statement in response. In the statement, the two leaders said that Freedom Fighter Md. Mujibul Haque is the legitimate and respected General Secretary of the Jatiya Party. They emphasized that before the announced council, no appointment or dismissal can be enforced based solely on the chairman’s decision. Relieving Chunnu without any reason and appointing Shamim Haider Patwary solely at the chairman’s discretion is extremely undemocratic, unconstitutional, and a direct violation of the party constitution. They further said in their statement, "According to the decision of the Jatiya Party Presidium, the national council has already been announced. In this situation, any kind of appointment, removal, or dismissal under the constitution is completely illegal and invalid. Such decisions are breaking down the party’s democratic structure.

We are astonished that despite regularly paying membership dues, how irresponsibly and based on false allegations such letters of dismissal have been issued — this is not just political vengeance, but unethical and disgraceful conduct." The two Jatiya Party leaders also said, “The Jatiya Party should be governed not by individuals but by its constitution and ideals. It is now imperative to restore democracy, discipline, and collective leadership in the party.” In their statement, they called upon all dedicated and principled leaders and activists of the Jatiya Party to unite against injustice and autocratic behavior.
