BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir visited Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman at a private hospital in Dhaka on Saturday (July 19) evening. The information was confirmed by BNP’s media cell member
Shayrul Kabir Khan. Earlier in the day, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman fell ill while delivering a speech at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan. He began his speech shortly after 5 PM but collapsed a few minutes later. With the help of other leaders on stage, he stood up again. Some of them supported him and fanned him as he appeared weak. At 5:23 PM, he resumed his speech but could not continue for even a minute before feeling unwell again. He pressed his chest with his right hand and
appeared to collapse once more. Fellow leaders held him and helped him sit down, from where he continued his speech. Addressing the activists, Dr. Rahman said, “I cannot live a minute longer than the life Allah has granted me. So, there’s no reason to be worried.”
He also prayed to Allah for a martyr’s death. He concluded his speech by proclaiming, “Allahu Akbar, Bangladesh Zindabad.
