The government has approved the procurement of 212 double-cabin pickup trucks for Bangladesh Police as part of efforts to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen law enforcement activities across the country.

The approval came during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase held at the Secretariat on Wednesday, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.

According to the proposal submitted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the vehicles will be acquired through the Direct Procurement Method (DPM) during the 2025–26 fiscal year. State-owned manufacturer Pragati Industries Limited has been selected to supply the vehicles under a contract valued at Tk 182.32 crore.

Government officials said the new pickups are intended to support patrol operations, crime prevention efforts, emergency response missions, and law enforcement activities in both urban and remote areas.

Officials involved in the project believe that the addition of these vehicles will significantly improve police mobility, response capability, and overall operational performance, enabling law enforcement agencies to provide faster and more effective services nationwide.
