Cabinet Approves Proposed FY2026–27 Budget Ahead of Parliamentary Presentation

The Cabinet has approved the proposed national budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year ahead of its presentation in Parliament later today.
The approval was granted at a special Cabinet meeting held on Thursday (June 11) at the National Parliament Building under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and other Cabinet members attended the meeting.
Following a review of the key features of the proposed budget, the Cabinet gave its formal approval for submission to Parliament.
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury is scheduled to present the budget in the National Parliament later in the afternoon. It will be his first budget presentation as finance minister.
The proposed budget has an estimated size of Tk 938,000 crore, making it the largest budget in Bangladesh’s history. The government has set a revenue collection target of Tk 695,000 crore, leaving an estimated budget deficit of Tk 243,000 crore.
To finance the deficit, the government plans to mobilize funds from both domestic and foreign sources. According to the proposal, Tk 116,000 crore will come from foreign loans and grants, while Tk 127,000 crore will be raised from domestic financing.
Of the domestic borrowing target, Tk 112,000 crore is expected to come from the banking sector, while Tk 15,000 crore will be collected through savings certificates and other sources.
The budget will be placed before Parliament under the chairmanship of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed in the presence of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. It will be Bangladesh’s 55th national budget and the first full budget of the current administration.
Following parliamentary procedures, the budget will receive formal assent from President Md. Sahabuddin before becoming effective on July 1, marking the beginning of the new fiscal year.
