The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has announced another reduction in gold prices, marking the second consecutive price cut within a short period. Under the new rates, the price of 22-carat gold has been reduced by Tk 4,432 per bhori, bringing the new price to Tk 218,350.
In a statement issued on Thursday (June 11), BAJUS said the decision was taken following a decline in the price of pure gold in the local market. The decision was approved at a meeting of the association’s Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring.
According to the revised price list, 22-carat gold will now be sold at Tk 218,350 per bhori. The price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 208,436 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk 178,692. Traditional-method gold has been priced at Tk 145,508 per bhori.
The new rates came into effect from 10:00 am on Thursday. BAJUS also noted that customers will have to pay an additional 5 percent VAT as required by law. Separate making charges will also apply depending on the design and craftsmanship of the jewellery.
Industry insiders say gold prices may be adjusted again in the future depending on movements in both domestic and international gold markets.
