The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across the country over the next five days as the southwest monsoon continues to advance into new regions.

According to a weather bulletin issued on Wednesday, rain and thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds are expected in many parts of the country, with moderate to heavy rainfall likely in some areas.

The meteorological office said the monsoon has already spread across the divisions of Barishal, Chattogram, Sylhet, Mymensingh, and Rangpur. It is expected to extend to the remaining parts of Bangladesh within the next two to three days, leading to a gradual increase in rainfall activity nationwide.

Forecasts indicate that many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Sylhet, and Chattogram divisions, as well as several areas in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Barishal divisions, may experience rain or thunderstorms during the period.

While daytime temperatures are expected to remain largely stable, slight fluctuations may occur in some regions. The weather office noted that temperatures in southern districts could decrease somewhat due to increased rainfall.

During the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall was recorded in Khepupara of Patuakhali, where 106 millimetres of rain fell. Significant rainfall was also reported in Chandpur, Sylhet, and Rajarhat of Kurigram.

The highest temperature in the country was recorded in Jashore at 37.2 degrees Celsius, while the lowest temperature, 23 degrees Celsius, was observed in Faridpur, Narayanganj, Badalgachhi, and Ramgati.

Meteorologists have indicated that rainfall activity may intensify further after the next five days as the monsoon becomes more active across Bangladesh.
