Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that the national budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year has been formulated with the goal of fulfilling the aspirations of the people and ensuring the overall welfare of citizens.
Speaking to journalists before presenting the budget in Parliament on Thursday (June 11), the minister stated that economic growth, job creation, and improvements in living standards were given top priority in the budget formulation process.
He noted that this budget is being presented under a government elected through a public mandate, making it significantly different from those of recent years. As a result, public expectations are higher, and those expectations have been carefully reflected in the budget framework.
Highlighting the country’s current economic situation, the finance minister said the government had to prepare the budget within its available financial capacity. However, the plan aims to stabilize the economy and lay the foundation for building a more prosperous Bangladesh in the long term.
According to Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, the budget seeks to ensure the effective use of national resources while bringing people from all segments of society into the mainstream of economic development. He expressed confidence that broader public participation in economic activities would help spread the benefits of growth across the country.
The minister also emphasized that inclusiveness is one of the key features of the new budget. Special attention has been given to expanding economic opportunities, strengthening social welfare programs, and improving support for disadvantaged communities.
He added that the budget has been designed to establish a stronger foundation for a welfare-oriented and participatory state, ensuring that the benefits of economic progress reach citizens at every level of society.
