Former Speaker Jamir Uddin Sircar Laid to Rest at Jatiya Sangsad Complex with State Honours

Former Speaker of Parliament, former Acting President of Bangladesh, and eminent jurist Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar was laid to rest with state honours at the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) Complex, where he had spent years presiding over parliamentary proceedings.
His funeral prayers were held on Sunday (12 July) at the Parliament Complex before he was buried at the designated site within the parliamentary premises. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, BNP Secretary General and Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, Leader of the Opposition Dr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman, cabinet members, lawmakers, judges, lawyers, senior government officials, parliamentary staff, political leaders, and hundreds of admirers.
Floral tributes were paid on behalf of the President by Military Secretary ASM Bahauddin, while the Speaker, BNP leadership, Deputy Speaker, Chief Whip, parliamentary officials, and representatives of various institutions also offered their final respects before the burial.
The Parliament premises witnessed an emotional farewell as colleagues, longtime political associates, and well-wishers remembered Barrister Sircar for his parliamentary wisdom, integrity, humility, and unwavering commitment to democratic values.
Special prayers were offered following the burial, seeking eternal peace and forgiveness for the departed leader.
Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar passed away early on Saturday (12 July) while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka. His death has been widely mourned across Bangladesh's political and parliamentary circles, where he is remembered for his distinguished public service and lifelong dedication to democratic institutions.
