Xi Jinping Congratulates President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir

Chinese President Xi Jinping has congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as the new President of Bangladesh.
In a congratulatory message sent on Monday, August 24, President Xi extended his best wishes to Mirza Fakhrul on assuming the presidency.
Xi Jinping highlighted the longstanding friendship between China and Bangladesh, noting that the two countries have maintained relations based on mutual respect and equality over the past 51 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties.
He said China and Bangladesh have consistently supported each other on core interests and major concerns while moving forward together on their respective paths to modernization. He also observed that bilateral relations have withstood the test of a changing international environment.
The Chinese President expressed his willingness to work with Bangladesh’s new President to further strengthen the traditional friendship between the two countries. He emphasized enhanced strategic communication, expanded high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and broader collaboration in various sectors.
Xi expressed hope that these initiatives would deepen the China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era and bring greater benefits to the people of both countries.
Bangladesh held its presidential election last Thursday, in which BNP candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir secured victory with 255 votes. His rival, 11-party alliance candidate Oli Ahmed, received 88 votes.
Following the announcement of the election results, the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka also congratulated Mirza Fakhrul. The embassy said China attaches great importance to its relationship with Bangladesh and is ready to work closely toward building a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future for the benefit of both nations and their people.
