On 12 December 2025 at approximately 14:24 BST, Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha and an aspirant for the Dhaka-8 parliamentary constituency, was critically wounded in a daylight shooting in the Old Paltan area of Dhaka while travelling by battery-powered rickshaw.

Emergency services transported Hadi to the hospital, where he received urgent neurosurgical care; his condition was reported as critical, and authorities arranged for transfer by air ambulance to Singapore for advanced treatment.

Two days after the attack, a formal criminal case alleging attempted murder was lodged at the Paltan Model Police Station by a relative of the victim.

The filed first information report names at least one accused and records the principal facts of the incident as described by complainants and witnesses. Law enforcement officials have stated that the case registration follows analysis of CCTV footage and investigative leads.

Investigative authorities have publicly identified an individual reported in the media as Faisal Karim (also referenced under the name Faisal Karim Daud Khan) as a principal suspect after CCTV analysis.

Security forces and specialist units, including the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), have detained multiple persons for questioning in relation to the event, including individuals described as associates or familial relations of the prime suspect; separately, the registered owner of the motorcycle allegedly used in the attack was taken into custody. A monetary reward for information leading to the apprehension of the active shooter(s) has also been announced by senior officials.

In the immediate aftermath, authorities took supplementary legal action to address the circulation of false or misleading online reporting that sought to implicate other political figures in the shooting; at least one case was filed against the proprietors of an online news portal for allegedly publishing fabricated links between the incident and a political leader. These concurrent legal measures reflect investigative attention both to the criminal attack itself and to the information environment surrounding the event.

The incident has prompted public statements from election authorities and senior officials emphasising that the attack is being treated as an isolated criminal act and asserting commitments to ensure a secure environment during the pre-election period.

Ongoing investigative priorities include securing and analysing digital and CCTV evidence, finalising forensic examinations, establishing the precise chain of culpability, and completing remand and charge processes consistent with criminal procedure.
