Police have recovered two burnt bodies from an abandoned municipal community centre in Savar, authorities said on Sunday (January 18). The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately.

According to police, the bodies were found around midday inside the abandoned Savar Municipal Community Centre, located in the Thana Road area of the Savar municipality. Officers were alerted to the scene and subsequently recovered the remains from inside the building.

Preliminary assessments by law enforcement suggest that the victims may be a woman and a male child, though officials cautioned that confirmation will require forensic examination. Police said the bodies appeared to have been burned, but the circumstances surrounding their deaths are not yet clear.

The area has been secured, and an investigation has been launched to determine how the incident occurred and whether any criminal activity was involved. Police said they are collecting evidence from the scene and will conduct post-mortem examinations to establish the cause of death and identify the victims.

Local residents expressed shock after learning of the discovery in the long-abandoned facility. Authorities urged anyone with relevant information to come forward as the investigation continues.
