The Government of Bangladesh has issued an official proclamation declaring a three-day public holiday in connection with the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election and referendum, scheduled for February 11 and 12, 2026.
The proclamation was released by the Ministry of Public Administration on Sunday evening to facilitate voter participation and ensure voters and election workers can exercise their rights without hindrance.
The general holiday will be observed nationwide on February 11 and 12 for all government, semi-government, autonomous, and private offices. Teachers, staff, and employees of both public and private educational institutions are also included in the holiday.
In addition, a special holiday for workers and employees in industrial zones has been declared on February 10, the day before the general election period begins. This measure aims to support workers' ability to cast their votes and participate in the electoral process.
The move comes as part of broader preparations by the interim government to ensure a smooth and inclusive election environment. Public reaction has been mixed, with some business associations urging adjustments to mitigate potential economic disruptions resulting from the prolonged holiday period.
