In a powerful show of public dissent, thousands of Israelis thronged Jerusalem over the weekend to pressure Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu into negotiating a hostage release deal. Crowds bearing portraits of captured individuals filled the streets near the Prime Minister’s residence, fervently urging an agreement that would secure the return of those held by Hamas.

The protests reflect mounting public impatience. Since October 2023, more than 200 individuals have been abducted during Hamas’ deadly attack, and many remain in captivity. While negotiations have seen sporadic hostage releases, Israel’s insistence on humanitarian terms or all-or-nothing approaches continues to stall broader resolutions.

The demonstrations represent part of a broader wave of unrest sweeping the nation, with similar protests erupting in Tel Aviv and across Israel. Citizens, hostages' families, and civil society groups are increasingly vocal, demanding that ending the war through a ceasefire be prioritized to bring loved ones home, rather than continuing full-scale military operations.
