Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, speaking aboard an aid flotilla headed to Gaza, has sharply called on UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to fulfill his “legal duty to act to prevent a genocide” in the besieged territory. She condemned the global failure of leaders to uphold international law and criticized governments for backing what she described as Israel’s “apartheid regime.”

Thunberg warned that the language to describe figures standing “on the wrong side of history” is yet to be invented, but such terms will be used to identify those supporting or committing war crimes. She emphasized a growing global awakening to the "livestream genocide" unfolding in Gaza and decried the absence of leaders who legally bear responsibility to intervene.

This message comes ahead of a potential meeting between Starmer and Israeli President Isaac Herzog. The UK government has remained guarded, reiterating its calls for a ceasefire, humanitarian access, protection for civilians, and a sustainable political solution without directly addressing Thunberg’s challenge.
