Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has formally inaugurated the newly built July Memorial at the historic Osmani Udyan in the capital. The modernised park has also reopened to the public after a prolonged period of renovation.

The prime minister inaugurated the upgraded park and the July Memorial on its grounds at 10am on Monday, October 19.

Osmani Udyan has been modernised at a cost of approximately Tk 500 million. Following the completion of the renovation work, the historic park has once again opened its gates to city residents.

The July Memorial was built on the grounds of Osmani Udyan to honour those killed during the July–August student-public uprising, as well as the valiant freedom fighters of Bangladesh’s Liberation War.

The memorial will provide visitors with an opportunity to reflect on the events of the historic uprising, the sacrifices of those who lost their lives and the contributions of the freedom fighters.

The reopening of the historic park and the construction of the memorial represent an effort to expand public recreational space while preserving the memory of significant events and sacrifices in the country’s history.
