Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu has been transferred from Rajshahi Medical College Hospital to Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) Hospital in Dhaka for advanced treatment after becoming ill due to anaemia.

He was flown to Dhaka on a US-Bangla Airlines flight that departed from Shah Makhdum Airport in Rajshahi at 8:45 am on Thursday, October 22. He is expected to receive treatment under specialist doctors at BMU Hospital.

Earlier, at around 7:30 am, Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, a member of parliament for Rajshahi-3 (Paba-Mohanpur), accompanied the minister from Rajshahi Medical College Hospital to the airport. He briefed journalists on the minister’s condition.

Milon said the land minister had travelled to Singapore for medical treatment a few days earlier. According to him, a side effect of medication prescribed there caused the minister’s haemoglobin level to fall to a dangerously low level, requiring several bags of blood.

He added that the minister had attended Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to Rajshahi two days earlier despite feeling unwell. The physical strain reportedly worsened his condition. Following consultations with specialist doctors in Rajshahi, the decision was made to transfer him to Dhaka.

Nazmul Haque Diken, the minister’s Assistant Private Secretary (APS), said Minu was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital at around 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 21, after suddenly becoming ill. He received treatment in a hospital cabin throughout the day and was given blood to address his anaemia before being transferred to Dhaka for further care.

After news of the minister’s illness spread, political and social organisation leaders and activists, specialist doctors and people from various professions visited him at the hospital from Wednesday evening until late at night.

The minister has requested prayers for his recovery. MP Shafiqul Haque Milon and members of the minister’s family have also appealed to the public to pray for his speedy recovery.
