Prime Minister’s Adviser on Education and Primary Education Mahdi Amin has described the proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 as a significant step toward building a democratic, humane and inclusive economy.

In a statement posted on Facebook on Thursday, Amin said the budget reflects the aspirations of people from all walks of life and represents a people-oriented approach to economic development.

According to him, the government has prioritized 12 key sectors, including education, healthcare, employment, skills development, information technology, creative economy, agriculture, food security, social protection, women and child welfare, infrastructure, energy, and climate resilience.

He noted that taxes on a wide range of essential commodities—including rice, lentils, fish, meat, sugar, salt, edible oil and spices—have been reduced to help control inflation and ease the financial burden on ordinary citizens.

The adviser said the budget seeks to make education more equitable and accessible at all levels while improving healthcare services by making critical treatments, including cardiac, kidney and eye care, more affordable.

He also highlighted government measures to support farmers through easier access to fertilizers, seeds, irrigation facilities, pesticides and agricultural insurance. In addition, incentives have been proposed to promote solar and renewable energy development.

Mahdi Amin stated that increasing investment, expanding business activities, facilitating access to bank credit and generating employment are among the key objectives of the budget. Special emphasis has also been placed on empowering youth and women through support for startups, freelancing, outsourcing, content creation and technology-based enterprises.

He further noted that the proposed budget does not include any provision for legalizing undisclosed wealth. Instead, it focuses on recovering illicitly transferred assets, strengthening governance in the banking sector, improving transparency in financial markets and ensuring accountability in lending practices.

The adviser said efforts have also been made to reduce administrative expenditure while increasing development spending so that public resources can be directed more effectively toward productive sectors and public welfare.

Expressing optimism about the country's future, Amin said that with collective efforts under the government's leadership, Bangladesh would continue its development journey and move toward a more prosperous, sustainable and self-reliant economy.
