The government has announced a major reform in the universal pension system for private sector employees, introducing a provision to provide 30 percent of accumulated savings as gratuity upon retirement.
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury made the announcement while presenting the national budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 in Parliament on Thursday.
He said the new benefit has been incorporated under social safety programs to strengthen post-retirement financial security for private sector workers.
Increased Social Security Allocation
According to the proposed budget, Tk 144,338 crore has been allocated for the social security sector in the upcoming fiscal year.
In comparison, the revised allocation for FY 2025-26 stood at Tk 126,731 crore.
Analysts note that the increased allocation reflects the government’s intention to expand social protection coverage and strengthen long-term financial security for private sector employees.
