The government has announced a major expansion plan for technical and vocational education, including the establishment of Technical School and Colleges (TSCs) in 329 upazilas, polytechnic institutes in 23 districts, and four women’s polytechnic institutes in the country’s four divisions.

Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury made the announcement while presenting the national budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 in Parliament on Thursday.

Increased Allocation for Technical Education

The budget proposes Tk 18,459 crore for technical and madrasa education in the upcoming fiscal year, significantly higher than the previous year’s allocation of Tk 12,678 crore.

The Technical and Madrasa Education Division under the Ministry of Education will implement 18 programs and projects as part of the new budget.

Infrastructure Expansion Plan

According to the proposal, each upazila will have at least one Technical School and College. In addition, new polytechnic institutes will be established in 23 districts, along with four women-only polytechnic institutes in four divisions.

Overall Education Allocation

For FY 2026-27, the total national budget has been set at Tk 938,000 crore. Of this, Tk 136,620 crore has been allocated for the education sector, equivalent to around 2 percent of GDP.

The Secondary and Higher Education Division will receive Tk 57,302 crore, while primary education has been allocated Tk 46,738 crore.
