Youth and Sports Ministry Budget Proposed at Tk 2,586 Crore, Up by Tk 782 Crore

The government has proposed a total allocation of Tk 2,586.06 crore for the Ministry of Youth and Sports in the national budget for the fiscal year 2026-27.
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury placed the proposal in Parliament on Thursday while presenting the national budget.
According to the proposal, Tk 1,577.30 crore has been allocated for development expenditure and Tk 1,008.76 crore for operational costs.
In comparison, the revised budget for FY 2025-26 stood at Tk 1,803.99 crore, meaning the proposed allocation is Tk 782.06 crore higher than the previous year.
Key Programs and Initiatives
The budget includes several initiatives aimed at developing sports infrastructure and promoting youth engagement:
Sports allowance program
Around 300 athletes have already been receiving sports allowances to promote sports as a professional career.
Sports village project
The government plans to build sports villages in all 64 districts, with preliminary designs already completed for 10 districts.
Sports diplomacy
Efforts are underway to strengthen international cooperation through sports diplomacy.
“Notun Kuri Sports” program
Launched under the Prime Minister’s initiative, this program provides scholarships to talented athletes aged 12–14.
The program covers eight sports disciplines, including football, cricket, kabaddi, athletics, badminton, chess, swimming, and martial arts.
A total of 168,622 young athletes have registered under the program so far, including 121,492 boys and 47,130 girls.
For this initiative, Tk 200 crore has been proposed in the upcoming fiscal year.
