A bilateral meeting was held between Bangladesh and a Japanese delegation to discuss the operation and maintenance of the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.

The meeting was chaired by Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and focused on possible cooperation and management frameworks for the newly constructed terminal. Representatives from relevant Bangladeshi ministries and agencies attended the discussion along with members of the Japanese delegation.

During the meeting, both sides discussed technical and operational aspects related to the management, maintenance, and long-term sustainability of the airport’s third terminal. Officials reviewed different options for ensuring efficient operation once the terminal becomes fully functional. The discussions also emphasized the importance of adopting international standards in airport management, passenger services, and infrastructure maintenance.

The third terminal project of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is one of Bangladesh’s largest aviation infrastructure developments and has been built with significant financial and technical support from Japan. Once fully operational, the terminal is expected to substantially increase the airport’s passenger handling capacity and improve overall service quality.

Officials said the meeting highlighted the strong bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and Japan, particularly in the areas of infrastructure development and transportation. Both sides expressed interest in continuing close cooperation to ensure the smooth operation of the terminal and further strengthen aviation connectivity.

The third terminal is expected to play a crucial role in modernizing Bangladesh’s aviation sector, facilitating increased international travel, and supporting the country’s growing economic and tourism activities.
