Bangladesh has described India's explanation regarding the incident involving Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's adviser, Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman, at New Delhi airport as "unsatisfactory" and termed the episode "unfortunate and regrettable."
Responding to questions about remarks made by the spokesperson of India's Ministry of External Affairs, Bangladesh Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday that the explanation provided by the Indian side did not adequately address the matter.
The spokesperson noted that Indian authorities had been formally informed through diplomatic channels in advance that Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman would lead the Bangladesh delegation to a meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).
"Despite being informed beforehand, the incident that occurred at Delhi airport was unfortunate and regrettable," the spokesperson said.
Earlier this month, Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman was scheduled to lead Bangladesh's delegation to an IORA meeting. However, he reportedly faced difficulties at New Delhi airport that prevented him from continuing his journey and participating in the event.
Meanwhile, responding to a question regarding comments made by India's Foreign Ministry on minority issues in Bangladesh, the spokesperson said that Bangladesh believes every country has an equal responsibility to ensure the rights and security of all citizens living within its territory, particularly members of minority communities.
The spokesperson reaffirmed that the Bangladesh government remains committed to protecting the rights, safety, and welfare of all citizens, including those belonging to minority groups.
