Police Uniform Colors Revised Again, Official Notification Issued

The Government of Bangladesh has introduced another change to the police uniform, restoring the dark blue and light olive color scheme for members of the force.
According to a notification issued by Police Headquarters, district police and other units will wear dark blue shirts, while members of metropolitan police units will wear light olive-colored shirts. Khaki trousers have been designated as the standard lower garment for all police personnel.
The directive, signed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, replaces the previously introduced iron-colored uniform that had been in use since late 2025.
Under the revised dress code, dark blue jackets, jerseys, cardigans, and pullovers will also be used by district police and most other units. Metropolitan police members, however, will use light olive-colored outerwear.
The changes extend to female police personnel as well. Most female officers will wear dark blue sarees and blouses, while female members of metropolitan police units will wear dark blue sarees paired with light olive blouses.
The notification also retains the provision for short-sleeved shirts during summer and full-sleeved shirts during winter. Pregnant female officers will be allowed to wear regular attire with prior approval from their respective unit heads.
Officials said the decision was made after considering concerns raised by police personnel regarding the iron-colored uniform, which many felt lacked public acceptance and suitability. The Bangladesh Police Service Association had formally requested a review of the uniform policy earlier this year.
Notably, the iron-colored uniform was introduced in November 2025 following recommendations made during police reform discussions after the political changes of 2024. The newly approved design marks a return to a color pattern previously used during an earlier BNP-led administration.
