Chief Whip of the ruling party in the National Parliament, Nurul Islam Moni, has indicated that a significant agreement in the solar energy sector may be signed during the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to China.
He made the remarks on Tuesday (June 23) while speaking at a discussion on the national budget and renewable energy organized by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) at a hotel in Gulshan, Dhaka.
Moni said the government has provided tax exemptions in several sectors, including energy, to help keep the cost of living affordable for ordinary citizens. Necessary subsidies have also been maintained to support consumers and businesses.
He noted that the government is working to increase investment and production in renewable energy as part of its efforts to achieve greater energy self-sufficiency. To support this goal, broader tax incentives for the renewable energy sector may be announced in the near future.
The Chief Whip emphasized that the government is placing special importance on the use of alternative energy sources to ensure sustainable development and energy security. Alongside encouraging private-sector investment, the government will continue to provide policy support and incentives for entrepreneurs in the renewable energy industry.
He also revealed that directives have been issued to install solar panels on government buildings as part of efforts to expand the use of solar power at the state level. According to him, implementation is already underway, and the benefits of the initiative are expected to become visible soon.
Participants at the discussion highlighted the need for increased investment in renewable energy, stronger policy support, and the expansion of environmentally friendly energy solutions to meet the country's future energy demands.
