Tk 1 Billion Compensation Sought from Barrister Fuad Over Alleged Remarks on Dhaka University

A legal notice has been served on AB Party leader Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad, demanding legal and administrative action against him over alleged derogatory and hateful remarks concerning the University of Dhaka (DU). The notice also seeks Tk 1 billion (Tk 100 crore) in compensation for allegedly damaging the university's reputation.
The notice was sent on Saturday (July 4) by Tanmay Kumar Saha, a former student of the University of Dhaka's Department of Law. The notice was also brought to the attention of the secretaries of the Education Ministry and Home Ministry, as well as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka.

According to the legal notice, certain statements allegedly made by Barrister Fuad have harmed the university's longstanding historical heritage, reputation, and international image. It further claims that the remarks have caused distress and resentment among current and former students and other members of the university community.

The notice alleges that Fuad questioned the national contributions of graduates of the University of Dhaka over the past five to seven decades and made negative remarks about them. It also accuses him of making allegedly hateful, divisive, and disrespectful comments about university teachers and faculty members.

The notice further claims that such remarks have undermined the dignity of one of Bangladesh's oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education and could adversely affect its reputation nationally and internationally.

As compensation, the notice demands that Tk 1 billion be deposited into the University of Dhaka's research fund. It also calls for appropriate legal and administrative measures to be taken over the alleged remarks.

Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad's response to the allegations could not be obtained immediately.
