PM Tarique Rahman visits Matarbari to inspect development projects

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today arrived in Matarbari, Maheshkhali, to inspect several major development projects, including the Matarbari deep-sea port and coal-fired power plant.

The visit marks his first trip to Maheshkhali, Fatikchhari and Hathazari since assuming office.

The helicopter carrying the prime minister landed at a helipad near Matarbari at 10:52am, said his Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman. State Minister for Energy Aninda Islam Amit received him at the helipad.

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and Energy Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku accompanied the prime minister on the helicopter.

Earlier, Tarique left his Gulshan residence at 8:50am for Tejgaon Airport and departed for Matarbari by helicopter at 9:15am.

During his stay in Matarbari, the prime minister is scheduled to inspect the Matarbari deep-sea port, coal-fired power project and activities of the Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority.

He will then travel to Banshkhali, where he will attend a rehabilitation programme for recent flood victims at the Paschim Banshkhali High School and College ground in Baharchhara Union at 12:30pm.

At 2:00pm, the prime minister is scheduled to meet Allama Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari at Al-Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Ulum Babunagari Madrasah in Fatikchhari.

At 3:15pm, he will visit the grave of late Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi at Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Madrasa in Hathazari. He will take a short break at Hathazari Dak Bungalow at 3:45pm.

Later, at 5:00pm, Tarique will attend another rehabilitation programme for recent flood victims at Hathazari Government College ground.

In the evening, the prime minister is scheduled to attend an organisational meeting at the auditorium of Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View hotel at 7:15pm.

After completing his engagements, he is scheduled to return to Dhaka by air from Hazrat Shah Amanat International Airport at 9:30pm.
