Young and emerging combat fighters from across Bangladesh kept sports enthusiasts entertained throughout the day as Crystal Insurance PLC presented Zulkhan Beatdown 02, an amateur martial arts competition, in a vibrant atmosphere at Bashundhara Sports City in the capital.
The day-long competition was held on Friday (August 7) at the main ring of Zulkhan Indoor Arena, a state-of-the-art combat sports venue at Bashundhara Sports City. Amateur fighters from different parts of the country participated in the event, showcasing their skills and gaining valuable experience through highly competitive bouts.

Organizers said the event was aimed at introducing amateur fighters to international-standard competition, improving their physical and technical abilities, and creating a pathway for them to progress to the professional level.

More than 20 bouts were held across three disciplines—Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), boxing and kickboxing. Each bout consisted of three three-minute rounds. The fighters’ speed, techniques, tactical skills and intense pursuit of victory generated excitement among spectators throughout the day.

One of the major attractions of the tournament was the Super 4 Amateur Championship. The two fighters who won their respective semifinals faced each other in the final on the same day. Winners of the final bouts were awarded the coveted Zulkhan Beatdown Championship belts.

This edition featured belt finals in a total of eight categories. Winners of individual bouts were also awarded medals. The women’s kickboxing competitions in the 50kg and 65kg weight classes were among the events that drew particular attention from spectators.

Crystal Insurance PLC was the title sponsor of the tournament. United Medical College Hospital, the official healthcare partner, provided medical and safety support for the fighters competing in the high-risk combat sports. A medical team remained stationed ringside throughout the competition to ensure the safety and confidence of the participants.

Official MC Wahida’s energetic presentation further enhanced the excitement of the event, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of an international-standard sporting competition.

Zulkhan Indoor Arena at Bashundhara Sports City is a specialized combat sports facility equipped with a professional boxing ring, a full-size MMA cage or octagon, grappling and wrestling mats, and modern fitness equipment.

Speaking about the future plans for Zulkhan Beatdown, Masudur Rahman Manna, Head of Operations at Bashundhara Sports City, said, “To produce professional-level fighters, we need to focus on fighters at the amateur level. Zulkhan Beatdown was launched with that vision. Insha’Allah, through this platform, we will be able to develop professional fighters who will represent Bangladesh’s red-and-green flag on the international stage.”

Organizers expressed hope that regular competitions of this kind would expand the country’s amateur combat sports scene and create a stronger pipeline of skilled fighters capable of competing at the international level.
