No Scope to Provide Special Benefits in Fuel Oil Imports: Government

The government is working on a new policy to allow the private sector to import, store, transport, distribute and market refined petroleum products in an effort to ensure an uninterrupted and secure supply of fuel oil across the country.
However, the Energy and Mineral Resources Division has clarified that there is no scope under the proposed policy to provide any special benefits to an individual, company or particular group.

The information was disclosed in a press release issued on Saturday by Muhammad Arif Sadek, Deputy Chief Information Officer of the division.

According to the release, the draft titled “Policy for Import, Storage, Transportation, Distribution and Marketing of Refined Petroleum Products in the Private Sector, 2026” is primarily aimed at strengthening the country’s energy security and ensuring an uninterrupted supply of fuel oil.

The proposed policy also focuses on establishing a transparent and competitive market while utilizing the infrastructure and investment capacity of the private sector, alongside government facilities, during emergencies or periods of crisis in the national interest.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division said the policy has not yet been finalized and is currently under formulation. A decision on finalizing the policy will be taken after obtaining opinions and recommendations from all relevant stakeholders.

The division said the proposed policy would be considered only if it serves the public interest, strengthens national energy security, promotes a competitive market and ensures transparency and accountability.

The division also noted that speculative and inaccurate information regarding the proposed policy has recently been circulated through various media outlets and social media platforms.

It urged all concerned to act responsibly when publishing or sharing information about the policy.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division reiterated that since the policy is still under formulation and has not been finalized, there is no question of providing special benefits to any individual, company or group through the proposed policy.
