President vows to uphold non-partisan role in discharging state duties

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said he will perform his responsibilities as head of state in a completely non-partisan manner, with the interests of the country, the state and its people remaining his sole priority.

He made the remarks at his first durbar with officials and employees of Bangabhaban at the Durbar Hall at 11:30am on Thursday (August 27).

The president said he had resigned from his political party, parliament and cabinet before assuming the presidency and is now completely non-partisan. He also said he would carry out his duties without personal bias, favour or resentment toward anyone.

He stressed the importance of earning public trust and ensuring honesty, dedication, sincerity and accountability in all circumstances.

Addressing Bangabhaban officials and employees, President Fakhrul urged them to maintain love, respect and loyalty toward the country and its people. He also called on them to perform their respective duties with sincerity, integrity and dedication.

Highlighting the history and heritage of Bangabhaban, he said it represents the dignity and sovereignty of the state. He urged everyone to preserve its dignity and maintain strict confidentiality regarding its daily operations and important state decisions to ensure national security.

The president also called for responsible and economical use of state funds and urged officials to prevent waste. Since public money is used to operate government resources and facilities, he stressed the need for their transparent, accountable and responsible use.

He further urged Bangabhaban employees to maintain discipline in their personal lives and work continuously to strengthen their moral character.

President Fakhrul paid deep tribute to those who sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War of 1971. He also recalled with respect the contributions of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia to post-independence nation and state building, as well as those of all previous presidents.

Describing Bangabhaban officials and employees as one family, he said they should work together and try to resolve problems through mutual discussion whenever opportunities arise. He expressed hope that everyone would continue working together in the future.
