Focus on Skill and Integrity, Not Money, to Succeed as Lawyers: Law Minister

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has urged aspiring lawyers to prioritise professional competence, integrity and ethics instead of pursuing money at the beginning of their careers.

He made the remarks as chief guest at the “Felicitations Programme 2026” held at the University of Asia Pacific auditorium in Dhaka. The event honoured UAP law graduates who passed the Bangladesh Bar Council enrolment examination.

The minister said young lawyers should not try to become wealthy through corruption or shortcuts. Instead, they should build their careers through merit, honesty, moral values and hard work.

He said the Bar Council’s transparent and rigorous enrolment system aims to ensure entry into the legal profession on the basis of merit and competence. Those who pass the examination earn their certificates through their own ability, not through favour or influence.

Urging patience, he said work and earnings may be limited at the beginning of a legal career, but both expand with experience and professional competence.

The minister also highlighted lawyers’ social responsibility, calling on them to take up some cases for poor and vulnerable people free of charge to help ensure access to justice.

He stressed the need for regular study, legal practice and strong drafting skills, adding that the government is moving toward expanding professional training for lawyers.
