Bangladesh and China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the China-Bangladesh Vocational Education, Training and Research Centre, aiming to strengthen cooperation in technical and vocational education.

The MoU was signed at the China-Bangladesh Education Exchange Conference, organised by the Jiangxi Provincial Government and Jiangxi Science and Technology Normal University in China.

Technical and Madrasah Education Division Secretary Md Daud Mia signed on behalf of Bangladesh, while Professor Zheng Pengwu of Jiangxi Science and Technology Normal University signed for China.

Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon and the Prime Minister’s Education Adviser Mahdi Amin attended the event.

The conference also launched three major platforms: the China-Bangladesh Vocational Teacher Training Centre, Bangladesh Vocational Education Research Centre, and the Chinese Language Plus Skill Development Centre.

The education minister said Bangladesh’s young population is its greatest strength and can become a globally competitive workforce through quality vocational education and modern technological training.

Representatives from 19 universities, technical institutions and industries in Jiangxi joined the conference. Both sides pledged cooperation in teacher training, curriculum development, industry-academia linkage, joint research and student exchange.
