Fake Facebook ID-page in Rizvi’s name, GD filed at police station

A general diary has been filed against several alleged fake Facebook accounts and pages using the name, photo and identity of BNP Acting Secretary General and the Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Rizvi’s personal assistant, Mashiur Rahman, filed the GD at Dhanmondi Police Station on Thursday evening and disclosed the matter in a Facebook post on Friday.

According to the complaint, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi does not operate any Facebook account, profile or page. Therefore, content published from accounts bearing his name—including statements, comments, photos, videos and political views—should not be considered his personal or authorised communication.

The GD alleges that several accounts use Rizvi’s name, photo, political designation and identity. One of the accounts reportedly carries a blue verification badge, creating the risk that people may mistake it for an authentic account.

Police have been requested to preserve the relevant URLs, usernames, verification information, posts, photos and videos, and to identify those operating the accounts through technical investigation.

The complaint also requests action, if necessary, through Meta to obtain account information and remove the allegedly fake accounts. It calls for legal action under the Cyber Security Ordinance, 2025 and other applicable laws if criminal activity is established.
