Bangladesh International Squash 2026 Concludes in Grand Finale

The Bangladesh International Squash 2026 concluded with a grand closing ceremony and prize-giving event at Bashundhara Sports City in Dhaka on Friday.

Egypt’s Ziad Ibrahim defeated Sri Lanka’s Ravindra Lakshishree 3-0 in the men’s final to claim the championship title.

The five-day international tournament, which began on August 24, brought together leading professional squash players from 11 countries. The final featured a competitive contest between world No. 144 Ziad Ibrahim of Egypt and world No. 164 Ravindra Lakshishree of Sri Lanka.

Major General Md. Hasan-Uz-Zaman, NDU, AFWC, PSC, MPhil, Engineer-in-Chief of the Bangladesh Army, attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest and handed over trophies, medals and prize money to the winners.

The event was also attended by tournament promoter Brigadier General G M Kamrul Islam, SPP (Retd.), members of the executive committee, Bashundhara Sports City’s senior executive director Colonel Mahasinul Karim and other senior officials, invited guests, local and international players, and members of the media.

The closing programme began with the distribution of the ‘Squash and Education Scholarship’. Meritorious secondary-level squash players were also recognised, while young squash players received sports equipment as part of the initiative to encourage participation at the grassroots level.

In the main prize-giving session, Bangladesh’s promising young player Parvez Karim was recognised, followed by awards for second runner-up Mohamed Gohar of Egypt, first runner-up Seif Etemadpour of Iran, runner-up Ravindra Lakshishree of Sri Lanka, and champion Ziad Ibrahim of Egypt.

According to the organisers, initiatives such as ‘Classroom Squash’, sports and leadership development programmes, and the ‘Squash and Education Scholarship’ are contributing to the development of squash in Bangladesh. They said the international tournament has provided local players with valuable international exposure while helping showcase Bangladesh’s potential as a destination for international squash events.

The organisers also highlighted the progress made by squash in Bangladesh over the past several years, noting that Bangladeshi players have started achieving recognition and success on the international stage.

With squash targeting participation in the 2032 Olympic Games, the organisers expressed their commitment to further developing the country’s squash infrastructure, nurturing young talent and strengthening collective efforts to take the sport forward.
