Two coaches of the intercity Tista Express became separated after their connecting hook broke while the train was running in Mymensingh’s Gafargaon area on Tuesday morning. Train services on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route were temporarily suspended following the incident.
The incident occurred around 10:15am on October 6 between Kaoraid and Mashakhali railway stations. The Tista Express was travelling from Dhaka to Dewanganj when the connecting hook between coaches ‘N’ and ‘T’ suddenly broke, causing the two coaches to become detached.
The driver noticed the problem and immediately stopped the train, preventing a potentially serious accident. No casualties have been reported in connection with the incident.
Mymensingh Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Aktar Hossain confirmed the incident and said railway workers were repairing the damaged connection hook at the site. Once the repair work is completed, the train will resume its journey towards Dewanganj.
Train movement along the route has been temporarily halted because of the incident. Other trains using the same railway line may also face delays until the situation is brought back to normal.
