Muhammad Yunus Faces Protest at New York’s JFK Airport

Former interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus faced protests and hostile remarks at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on Monday, October 12, according to media reports.
Yunus arrived from Doha on a Qatar Airways flight. A video circulating on social media appears to show several people approaching him while he was in a wheelchair and shouting critical remarks, including “You are a terrorist” and “Why have you come here?” Other reports said the protesters also made allegations concerning Bangladesh’s political situation, arrests and the deaths of police officers.
Security personnel reportedly moved Yunus away from the area following the confrontation.
Although some reports described the protesters as supporters of Bangladesh’s Awami League and its affiliated organisations, their identities and political affiliations have not been independently confirmed. These claims should therefore be treated with caution.
A similar incident was reported in September 2025, when Yunus travelled to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly. During that visit, members of his delegation faced protests at JFK Airport, and NCP leader Akhtar Hossain was reportedly pelted with eggs.
As of the reports reviewed, further details about the latest incident and any official response from the relevant authorities or Yunus’s representatives require confirmation.
